2016 Basketball Camps in Tennessee
The Volunteer State has a lot to offer youth (and advanced) basketball players. If you have any trouble finding camps near you, I recommend checking out another state.
Tennessee is unique because it is close to several states. Browse them all to get the full picture of what camps are close by!
Pro tip: During your basketball camp search, write down notes on the basketball camps you’re interested in.
Jot down things like camp dates, locations, cost, and anything that makes the camp different. The notes will be helpful when you’re trying to take 6 potential camps and narrow it down to 2 or 3!
Welcome To The Grindhouse!
The Memphis Grizzlies Basketball Camp has a few options this year for boys and girls.
Choose from three different camp locations around Greater Memphis. There won’t be any practicing at the home court, FedEx Forum.
Head coach Dave Joerger will be at two of the camps (for only one day though). Looks like there won’t be any player appearances, bummer 🙁
If you do sign your son or daughter up for camp, they will get a t-shirt, two ticket vouchers for a Grizzly game, and discounted tickets to select Grizzly games.
That’s not a bad perk!
It’s difficult to gauge how well the camp instruction will be. Their website doesn’t list a lot of info about that.
Regardless of the quality of instruction, if your son or daughter is a huge Grizzlies fan, this may be the right camp for them!

National & Celebrity Basketball Camps
Nike Basketball Camps have a few locations in Tennessee. Nike is generally known for having quality instruction no matter the location.
Every camp page provides lengthy bios on the camp director. Definitely look for someone who has a history of running camps and interacting with kids.
Breakthrough Basketball is another very popular camp. Their instruction is known as top of the line. Helpful skills training for players of all ages.
Breakthrough caps the number of campers allowed at camp. This ensures a low coach-to-camper ratio and more individual instruction.
Don’t wait around to sign up for a BB camp, they often sell out!
Looking for advanced training? PGC Basketball is what you need.
PGC (Point Guard College, but not just of PGs), has developed programs that help campers think differently about basketball. They try to increase a player’s Basketball IQ.
As far as Celebrity Camps go, Camp One is where it’s at.
Based in Kentucky and Tennessee, Camp One hosts camps for players like John Wall, Demarcus Cousins, and Eric Bledsoe.
Many of their camps feature University of Kentucky alumni. Most camps are located in Kentucky, but a few are in Tennessee.
You may want to consider traveling to KY because it’s always fun as a kid to meet players you can watch on TV!

Camps Local To Tennessee
Nashville Youth Basketball Association has some of the most affordable training options I’ve ever seen.
Not a basketball camp, but still training, they hold two hour $10 Sunday skills and drills sessions.
Your son or daughter could attend ten of those throughout the summer and it would be the equivalent of a $100 camp!
Located in Nashville, the Big E Camps has a program that I just love.
It’s called Basketball Give and Go Camp. Campers enjoy a fun-filled week of books and basketball!
In the morning, participants will go through literacy activities that focus on the foundations of becoming an avid, life-long reader!
After a healthy snack, campers then participate in competitive basketball drills, and games. Parents, you have to like the idea of learning and basketball!
In addition to the basketball Give and Go Camp, Big E also offers a Fundamental and Skill Development camp.
I wanted to mention Montgomery Bell Academy as a reminder to check local high schools to see if they have any camps available.
Many will because they want to start training their upcoming players!
Located in Nashville, MBA offers a shooting camp that will teach the mechanic of a proper shot and three different day camps. They operate all camps under the mantra of “Fundamentals and Fun”.
Pretty good instruction for a high school!

College & University Camps in TN
University of Memphis Tigers Men’s and Women’s programs are a fairly typical college camp experience.
The Men’s offer three different Day Camp sessions, and a team camp.
Tigers Women’s Basketball also has a Day Camp for girls only.
Vanderbilt University Men’s Basketball has interesting camp options. All camps are instructed by Vanderbilt coaches and players.
There’s an elite camp for advanced players looking to learn in a intense collegiate atmosphere. It’s a one-day event.
For the younger players the Commodores offer a Junior Day Camp. Perfect for the beginner player.
FYI: The Commodore Women’s basketball camp website was down. So check back on that 🙁
Women’s basketball is where it’s for the Volunteers. University of Tennessee Women’s basketball camp is one of the most popular girls camp in the county.
Choose from an AM or PM Day camp session, an overnight immersive Vols experience, or an Elite Camp for players that want to practice in position-specific collegiate drills.
Tennessee Men’s Basketball has a intensive skills camps as well.
Pro Tip: Don’t skip over those smaller colleges! They can prove excellent basketball instruction close to home.
King University in Bristol is a great example. They offer a Fundamental & Shooting camp, a Position camp, and several different team camps.
I’m a big fan of the position camps because the camper can use the short amount of time at camp to learn skills specific to a Guard or a Post position.
