Basketball Camps in South Carolina 2016

The Palmetto State (yes, that’s SC’s nickname) has great college and local basketball training programs.

College-wise, University of South Carolina dominates with several camp options for both boys and girls.

Locally, you can find elite camps that have trained professional players (Steph Curry), camps that use the latest in training equipment (Vertimax), and camps that are as much a workout as skills training (basketball & crossfit).

Even if your son or daughter just started learning the game of basketball, don’t discount the elite programs. They all provide instruction for youngest and most beginner players.

“We are excited to have selected 3D Hoops and Coach Jason Harman as our exclusive partner to bring Nike basketball camps to the midlands area of South Carolina.” – Lee Miller, Nike Basketball Camps

3D Hoops Basketball Camp LogoThat says it all folks. 3D Hoops & Nike Basketball Camps partnered up to bring quality basketball training in greater Lexington and Columbia.

In addition to the Nike sponsored camps, 3D Hoops have their own camps that teach introductory skills to youth players.

Missed the summer camps? Not a problem. 3D Hoops also offer private training, group training, year-round clinics, and league play.

Pro Tip: Parents, make sure to sign up your youth player in leagues in addition to camps. They need somewhere to practice the new skills they learn!

Basketball Combine Summer Camp LogoBasketball Combine Training, located in greater Greenville and Spartanburg, offers instruction unlike I’ve ever seen at a camp. This video explains it much better than I can:

Even though the training looks like it’s for advanced players, Basketball Combine Training has a  training program for young players just learning that game.

If you’re looking for an elite camp for your son or daughter, you have to take a look at Accelerate Basketball Training.

“To be the best you must train with the best. Let Accelerate Basketball Training get you better, faster with the same drills and equipment used in the NBA!” – Steph (Chef) Curry

Accelerate Basketball Training Camp LogoABT offers basketball training year-round. Although they do offer very advanced basketball training, they do have “Young Stars” camps for the player just beginning to learn.

If you’re serious about basketball training eventually you’ll come across the Vertimax. It’s a machine (or equipment or device or platform, it’s many things actually) used to increase strength, quickness, and jumping ability.

Accelerate Basketball Training will incorporate the Vertimax into their training. Which is perfect for you as a parent because they cost about $4,500!

ABT even offers online basketball training presented by Steph Curry. It’s a monthly membership and you can cancel anytime. Check it out!

Camps Hosted By Colleges & Universities

University of South Carolina Gamecocks Basketball CampUniversity of South Carolina Gamecocks offer great programs for both boys and girls.

Gamecock Men’s Basketball offer one of my favorite camps, the Father/Son camp.

These are great because you can take the drills learned at camp and practice them at home with your son.

Men’s bball also offer an Individual Camp, Elite Camp, a “Little Gamecocks” Camp (for the younger players), and a Garnet & Black Camp (for the intermediate players).

Gamecock Women’s basketball offers the traditional camps and an Elite camp. They also offer something unique I’ve never seen a college do before.

Former Gamecock, Aleighsa Welch along with the former and current players puts on a Little Leaders Basketball Skills Camp. This is a great opportunity for your son or daughter to interact with college players at a half-day camp!

Clemson University Tigers Basketball CampClemson University Tigers has a few options for both boys and girls. The boys camp options are pretty weak with just an Individual camp.

The Lady Tigers offer several options. Head coach Audra Smith “House of Hoops” puts on an Individual camp, an Elite camp and a Super Shootout (for AAU teams).

The Elite camp will focus on position specific drills and campers will get a feel for what it’s like to train at the collegiate level.

“Camp is an excellent tool for students of the game to work and take their skills to the next level. Here at the College of Charleston we focus on developing well-rounded student-athletes who are ready to succeed both on the court and in life.” – UoC Women’s Coach Jackson

College of Charleston Cougars Basketball CampCollege of Charleston Men’s and Women’s basketball both offer similar camps.

The traditional camp offer a lot of games and contests and the “thought of the day” to get the campers thinking about more than just basketball.

The Cougars have an Elite camp which resembles a college practice. Advanced skills will be taught and then each player will have a minimum of two games a day so they can implement the new skills they learn immediately.

Pro Tip: Don’t skip over the smaller schools. They can have great camps too!

For example, USC Aiken Pacers has four different camp sessions to choose from for both boys and girls. Each camper receives a t-shirt and a special gift!
