Michigan basketball camps have some big names. But, don’t forget about some of the lesser known camps that may be close to you.

Pro Tip: During your basketball camps search have a good idea of what kind of camp you’re looking for and what city you want to travel to.

That’s because there’s a bunch of basketball camp options all over Michigan. Let’s start the discovery!

Motor City Baby

The Detroit Pistons dominate the camp scene in Michigan with 15+ camps during the summer. Their camp types include Lady Pistons, Rookie, Offensive Skills, and Play at The Palace camps.

On their website you can check out sneak peak videos of the camp, view locations, and get the details.

If you live near Detroit, the Pistons camp is definitely worth a look.

National Camps in Michigan

National camps, if you’re wondering what those are, are camps that have locations in several states across the United States. And have a long history of running camps.

McCracken bball camps is a highlight here.

They have camps in four different states, but the most camps are held in Michigan. Which is great, but not the real reason why I’m mentioning them.

I’m mentioning them because they’ve had basketball camps for 53 years!

Did you know they have basketball camps in the early 60s? I didn’t. Did they invent the basketball camp? Someone figure that out for me 🙂

Camps To Consider

BCAM (Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan) doesn’t host any specific camps, but they have a list of at least 30 different basketball camps to attend in MI.

Some are team camps, but heck if you play on a team they can be a great way to quickly develop team chemistry.

Otter School of Basketball runs a solid program all over the Greater Midwest and has a handful of camps in Michigan. They’re definitely worth a look. They have a great website with lots of free basketball training info.

Gregory Kelser, the famed basketball announcer in Michigan, and member of the Michigan basketball hall of fame has a long running camp in Greater Detroit too.

Basketball Camps at Colleges

Michigan State and the University of Michigan are the classics here. Anything with Tom Izzo will have the campers learning (and listening).

University of Michigan has many camps to choose from with a Father and son camp, a Shooting Academy, and a Junior Wolverine Camp.

Don’t want to discount the smaller schools though. Last I checked many of them had exposure and elite camps.

If you’re son or daughter has college ambitions definitely check these out…hint…hint.

The exposure and elite camps at smaller colleges can be a great opportunity to show off basketball skills and get on the radar of the smaller college. An informal college try outs.
