Of all the different type of basketball camps available in Maryland, the local camps dominate the basketball scene.
Local camps are great because they have several camp options like clinics, specialty camps, and year-round training.
But, before we learn more about the camps…
Finding basketball camps can be a challenge, here’s three tips to help you during your search:
1. Get The FREE Goods
2. Map of Basketball Camps in Maryland
At the bottom of this page is a map of basketball camps in Maryland.
Don’t stop your search at the map. Browse the entire list of camps because some camps aren’t listed on the map. Their locations tend to change!

Maryland Basketball Camps 2016
Like I said above, Maryland’s local basketball camp options are top-notch. I would say MD is in the top tier of states that provide quality bball instruction.
With so many local camps, the instruction doesn’t stop during summer. Year-round training and personalized instruction is available to help the weaknesses of a baller’s game.
What’s also cool about living in MD is the close proximity to great camps in other states.
Lots to choose from as a parent!
Pro Tip: As you go through the camps below and in other states, write down what camps you’re interested in.
Jot down details like location, cost, dates, and what makes the camp unique.
When it comes time to narrow down 10 summer camps to 2, the notes will come in handy!
Camps Local to Maryland
Maryland Basketball Academy is a great basketball organization that goes beyond summer camps (six different ones if you’re interested).
In addition to summer camps, MBA offers year-round shooting & skill development clinics, individual & group training, leagues, and AAU teams.
What else can I say about MBA? Dozens of gyms, professional coaches, several AAU teams, training for all ages. Check them out!
Coach Wootten’s Basketball Camp is one of the oldest camps in the country, and the oldest in Maryland.
With over 50 years teaching boys and girls the game of basketball, they have some experience under their belt!
I really like how they break down what your player will be doing at camp. 12 games, 13 different skills, extra morning stations, and 3 v 3 competitions.
Don’t forget to check out their social media for examples of what goes on at camp!
The last local camp I’ll mention is Intensity Basketball Training, located in great Baltimore.
At IBT you will (again) find not only summer camps, but also fall clinics, individual instruction and group clinics.
What I really like about the Intensity Basketball summer camps is their 6:1 camper-to-coach ratio.
That may be the lowest I’ve ever seen!
As a side note on Intensity Basketball, they’ve helped over 70 players play college ball. They know their basketball stuff!

National & Celebrity Camps
National camps are a term I use for camps located in several states.
You’re only going to find a few National camps in Maryland. I believe this is because of the solid local basketball camps.
The good news is that all the National camps in MD are known for being quality camps. Can’t go wrong no matter the camp you sign up for!
Breakthrough Basketball offer several different specialty camps. Choose from basketball camps like Youth Skills, Shooting, Ball Handling, and Shooting & Decision-Making.
Breakthrough offers year-round training, so check them out for Fall, Winter & Spring camps!
So far I haven’t heard anything negative about Nike Basketball Camps.
If you do choose Nike, read about the Camp Director’s background and the facilities on their website before choosing a camp.
PGC Basketball (formerly called Point Guard College) is one of the best training experiences a player can get.
PGC trains player how to think the game. It is for the serious player looking to improve their basketball IQ!
College & University Camps in MD
“Basketball camp was a big part of my life growing up. It is where I learned the fundamentals of the game and met many of my childhood friends.” – Terrapin’s Coach Turgeon
University of Maryland basketball camp takes the cake (or should I say basketball?) as the most popular basketball camp in Maryland.
The Terrapin Men’s camp has a lot of classic camp options including the Day and Overnight camp.
Something that jumped out to me is the mix of learning and competitive contests during camp. Education and fun is what it’s all about.
Pro Tip: Practice the contests beforehand to have a better chance of winning them at camp!
University of Maryland also has a coaching clinic. This is perfect for the parent who coaches their child’s YMCA, Rec, or Competitive bball team.
The Terrapin Women’s camp has the most camp offerings I’ve ever seen from a college.
Choose from an Elite camp, Day camp, Guard clinic, Shooting Clinic, Post Player clinic, and the classic college Overnight camp.
Lot of options for the lady ballers!
If you live in Baltimore, the UMBC Retrievers (great mascot) has a few summer camp options.
Retrievers Men’s Basketball has the classic day and overnight camps.
Women’s Basketball has partnered up with Nike to host a camp. The Nike camp is run by the UMBC Women’s head coach.
Towson University Tigers also has a solid summer camp. Located in the city of Towson (duh) they offer a 8:1 camper-to-coach ratio.
That ensures your son or daughter will have plenty of personal instruction during the drills and games.
Pro Tip: Don’t overlook the smaller college camps.
For example, St. Mary’s College of Maryland offers two different camps.
Choose from a beginner fundamental basketball camp for young boys and girls aged 4-6.
Or a Basketball School for boys and girls up to age 18. One the camp brochure, they stress the importance of finding enjoyment in the game of basketball. That’s what it’s all about!
