2016 Basketball Camps in California

Celebrity camps, elite camps, 50+ college camps, year-round training from quality programs. California has more basketball camp options than any other state.

More options is great for you. It means you’re more likely to find quality bball instruction nearby.

But, there is a downside. So many camps can get overwhelming.

Here’s some pro tips to avoid basketball camp overwhelm. A common issue, but easily cured!

Pro Tip: First, consider what camp locations you can travel to.

Overnight camps will give you the option to drive a farther distance to drop off your camper on the weekend and pick up them up mid-week.

Figuring out locations will immediately cross off certain basketball camps because they’re too far away.

Second, think about what kind of camp would be perfect for your son or daughter. Intense skill development? A fun camp with friends? Meeting a celebrity? An overnight camp? A specialty camp? A combination of those?

Once you figure out the location and the kind, I also recommend getting out a pen and paper to jot down notes on camps you’re interested in.

That will help you compare camps and save time by not going back and forth to compare 2 or 3 or 5 or 10 camps!

Warriors, Lakers, Kings, Sparks – Pick Your Fav

The 2015 NBA Champs dominate California when it comes to an overall great basketball camp program.

For 2015, the Warriors have over 40 camps in Greater San Fran. And it’s not just a 40x repeat of the traditional camp with basic fundamental bball skills.

They also have a shooting clinic, guard clinic, perimeter skills, and a Future Stars camp! Which camp will be the best fit for your son or daughter?

2nd Pro Tip (because I’m feeling generous): The Warriors offer several camp discounts for early registration, signing up for multiple camp sessions, and bringing a sibling.

Don’t overlook these discounts!

National & Celebrity Camps

National camps are held by organizations that have camps in multiple states.

A few notable national camps that have several locations in California include Nike, NBC, Breakthrough Basketball, PGC Basketball, and Advantage Camps.

Of course the state with the celebrity capital of the world (Hollywood) will have some of the best celebrity basketball camps.

MJ Flight School, CP3 Camp, Kobe Basketball Academy, and Steph Curry’s Camp are a few of the celeb camps you can find.

Camps Local To California

Here’s a quick highlight of All-Around Great Camps I found in Cali.

Even if these camps aren’t in your area, I still recommend visiting the websites so you can have a good idea of what an all-around great basketball camp looks like.

It will be that much easier to find a similar camp near you!

Snow Valley Basketball School has been instructing young basketballers since 1961…wow.

That’s a lot of campers, a lot of skills taught, and a lot of opportunities to perfect their basketball instruction.

It’s for more advanced campers aged 11-18. Check out their video to see if it’s right for your son or daughter.

Considered one of the best basketball camps in the Bay Area, Legarza Basketball Camp has many camp options.

Legarza is more of a basketball institution that also holds summer basketball camps, than just a basketball camp.

New to basketball basketball? They have a camp for you. Middle school aged looking for advanced instruction? They got it. Year-round training, including after school and on the weekends? Yep!’

Another solid Bay Area camp is the Triple Threat Academy.

Again, calling TTA a camp isn’t accurate because they offer year-round training, and are much more than a traditional camp.

TTA offers group training for “Pee Wee Dribblers” and “Jr. Dribblers”, a weekly shooting competition for advanced players, and elite training with an NBA Skills Coach.

They also boast a $49 multiple camp discount…nice!

Basketball Camps Hosted By Colleges & Universities

The Standford Cardinals, San Diego State Aztecs, and UCLA Bruins are some of the most popular college basketball camps in California.

They all offer the same type of camps such as day,
overnight, an elite, or a team camp.

These popular, well known camps often sell out. Wait to sign up at your own risk!

Don’t forget about the smaller colleges and universities that may be closer to home. Small schools with a wining program will typically  have a well-rounded youth basketball program.

Occidental College is a great example.

They are a D3 school with 5 different camps for boys and girls. It’s the 27th year they’ve held basketball camps…talk about a college tradition!
