2016 Basketball Camps in Massachusetts
Whether you’re looking for traditional summer camps, weekend clinics, personal training, or advanced instruction, you will be able to find it in Massachusetts.
Summer camps are a great time for your son or daughter to learn new basketball skills. But, I want you also to consider additional basketball training throughout the year.
A weekend clinic here and there or a few personal training sessions can keep their skills fresh and put them in a better position to make the Middle or High School Basketball Team.
Pro Tip: As you’re doing your camp search, write down notes of the camps you’re interested in.
Write down things like camp location, dates, cost, and what makes that camp unique.
These notes will come in very handy when you have to narrow down 10 possible summer camps to 2 or 3!
Interested in Instruction From the Celts?
The Boston Celtics Basketball Camp is run by former Boston Celtic and two time NBA champion Dave Cowens.
Pro Tip: One of the best ways to determine if a camp will be of quality is to research the Camp Director and their closest staff. Read their basketball background and the testimonials.
On the Celtics Camp website there’s a testimonial from a parent that states her daughter made Camp Cowen her Hero for a school project.
Talk about a coach making an impression!
There’s a ton of info on the Boston Celtics camp website including background of Camp Staff, typical daily schedule, and tour of camp facilities.
If you like what you see, consider signing up for a camp!

National Camps in Massachusetts
A National Basketball Camp is a term I use for camps that are located in multiple states.
A popular National Camp is Nike Basketball Camps. And in Massachusetts they dominate the basketball scene with over 35 camps.
Nike partnered with Sarah Behn basketball camps to provide even more quality training in greater Mass. I’ll give more details about Behn’s camps below in the Local Camps section.
I honestly haven’t heard anything negative about about Nike camps. The only issue I’ve come across is a camp being too crowded.
Pro Tip: If you do sign up for a Nike camp (or any camp) figure out how many campers are at the camp and the facility it’s held in. If it seems like a lot of kids for the size of the gym, consider choosing a different camp.
Breakthrough Basketball Camps offers general fundamental skills camps and specialty camps.
Their camp offerings include a Youth Skills Camp, Post Camp, Shooting Camp, and an Elite Guard Camp.
I’ve heard a lot of great things about the Breakthrough camp as well. I think this is because they cap camper participation so that each player gets plenty of personal training.
The downside to limiting campers is that almost all camps sell out!
In one of the camp reviews I received, a Breakthrough Camp Director put name tags on all campers. By Day 2 he learned the names of all 50 campers.
Talk about quality, personal instruction!
Looking for advanced bball instruction? Look no further than PGC Basketball.
PGC (formerly called Point Guard College) is a camp that helps players “Think The Game”.
Campers attend this camp to increase their Basketball IQ.
Which means improving their Leadership, Communication, Spirit, Hustle, and Precision. That’s what PGC Basketball is all about.
In one of the camps they offer, campers will spend half their time learning the finer points of basketball in the classroom and then practicing what they learn on the court.
Quick tip. You can take a short quiz on PGC Basketball’s website to determine if your son or daughter is ready for the advanced teachings of the camp.

The Sarah Behn Basketball Organization has been instructing youth bball players for over 20 years.
What I really like about the Behn basketball organization (because they are much more than just camps) are the variety of options for youth players.
They have training for players who are at all levels of the game including someone who is preparing for a tryout, wants to make the starting five, or just improve and have fun.
Choose from Sarah Behn programs like Day Camps, Overnight Camps, Vacation Clinics (winter and spring break), High School Elite Camps, Pre-Season Camps, and Community Programs (where Sarah Behn trainers will come to you!).
ASA Hoops (A Step Ahead) is a year-round operation offering camps (over 40), clinics, and training for boys and girls in greater Boston and New Hampshire.
The camps are generally held during the summer, and clinics will be frequently held, but the training is held all year before and after school.
ASA Hoops believes in five steps to success. Each campers will receive Instruction with Competition that focuses on Character Development, creating positive Self-Esteem in a Fun environment.
If you’re interested in an AAU team, they also host tryouts for 12 different boys and girls teams!
The LX Basketball Camps feature NBA players like Brian Scalabrine and Phil Pressey.
Campers will learn alongside these players on basketball skills like court awareness, player positioning, passing, assists, and defense production.

Camps Hosted By Colleges & Universities
Unfortunately for youth ballers, Harvard University Men’s and Women’s basketball only provide Elite Camps.
If your son or daughter is in high school and looking for advanced instruction and competition, Men’s Crimson hosts a Basketball Academy.
Pro Tip: Many colleges use elite camps as a recruiting tool for roster spots. I get the feeling that Harvard is using this camp for this purpose.
Their website states the Basketball Academy is designed for the high-school age student athletes who wish to be part of a strong academic and athletic environment.
Similar to the Men’s, Harvard Women’s Basketball hosts an “Elite Weekend” for high school age players. This is a great opportunity for a player to immerse herself in the world of collegiate basketball.
Boston College Eagles Men’s basketball has several different camp sessions hosted by both Men’s and Women’s basketball.
Men’s Fighting Eagles has two Day Camps to choose from. Sign up for both camps for a discount!
Boston College Women’s BBall offers the same Day Camps as Men, but also a couple of Elite camps for high school aged players.
The Day Camps will feature skill instruction, interactive lectures, and fun games.
The Elite Camp will have individual and small group advanced instruction by coaching staff and players.
College of the Holy Cross Men’s basketball provides a lot of detailed info about their camps.
The Day Camp will include Stations, Competitions, Games, Team Practices, and Competitions.
The Elite Camp covers more advanced topics such as Strength and Agility Work, and Video Breakdowns.
Crusader Women’s Basketball hosts a Day and Overnight camp for players ages 8 and up. Check out their Facebook page for pics and videos or previous camps!
Pro Tip: Don’t skip over the dozens of smaller college camps in Massachusetts. They can provide quality training!
For example, Salem State University Men’s & Women’s basketball offer several camps. Camps are run by Salem State head coaches and local high school coaches.
Players learn skills like ball handling, shooting techniques, individual and team defense, and moving without the ball, which is a great intro to playing with other players.
Don’t overlook professional instruction like this in your hometown!
