Charlotte Hornets Basketball Camp
Need To Know Info
The first thing I noticed about the Charlotte Hornets basketball camp is the nickname for campers. A quick joke:
What do you call Charlotte Hornets basketball campers?
Too funny. But seriously here is the need to know info.
There are over 10 locations throughout the greater Charlotte area. Cities include Indian Trail, Huntersville, Mooresville, and Concord. There are even camps in Fort Mill, South Carolina!
The camps are run by camp director by Chad Hunt. Chad has an extensive history of playing basketball. He was a former player at Lake Erie College in Pennsylvania, at ABA’s Cleveland Rockers, and at Team USA Select (overseas).
Since 2009, Chad has been a camp director and trainer. He’s passionate about teaching basketball and helping young players improve. Just like us at Youth Basketball Camps!
Chad Hunt has one of my favorite basketball quotes listed on the Hornets summer camp website. It sums up his training philosophy:
“You can practice shooting eight hours a day, but if your technique is wrong, then all you become is very good at shooting the wrong way. Get the fundamentals down and the level of everything you do will rise.” – Michael Jordan
Per the website, all coaches go through a background check and must have played in college or at least coached in high school.
More Than Just a Summer Camp
The Charlotte Hornets actually have three different basketball training opportunities for young athletes. There are game-day and specialty clinics, summer camps, and individual/small group training.
1. Game-day and Specialty Clinics
Usually held at the arena during holiday breaks. Range from 1-3 days.
2. Summer Camps
Classic camp. Lots of swag. Lots of competitions. Lots of fundamental learning. Lots of fun and memories.
3. Individual/ Small Group Training
For players 5 and up. Training will be made specific for each player. Three different experience categories: intro, rec, and competitive.
All the training options are broken down on the Hornets Hoops Site. Check it out for more info!
- Ticket voucher to Hornets regular season game
- Official Spalding NBA basketball with Hornets logo
- Exclusive Horents gear & accessories
- Gatorade water bottle and towel
The Charlotte Hornets offer lots of training options for young campers.
Even if you can’t make any of the summer camps, young athletes can still sign up for individual training sessions. Which is a great opportunity if you wan’t specific individual instruction.
I’m sure any young Hornets fan would love any of the training sessions. Especially the summer camp with all the Hornets swag!
Must Watch Videos
Check out this video of a camp the Bobcats (I know, the old Hornets) put on. It’s a good glimpse of the kinds of drills they will run at their current camp:
And for fun – a dunk competition video by the pro players at the camp. Has your son or daughter ever seen this before…in person?:
Camp & Reviews and Q&A
Best Camp Ever!
I think the Charlotte camp is the best camp ever! I went to the parent child/ clinic and went with my dad. We played lots of games together and even played against other dad and daughter teams.
I got personal training on my shot with one of the Bobcats trainers. It was pretty cool because he said he sits by the Pro players during the basketball game. I want to go again next year and maybe even go to the personal training camp. Go Bobcats!
